Dover Project Feature: Contractor of the Year Award, First Place Bathroom Remodel

Guest Blog:  Designer Amy Tilow

BLOG #2 of 4 IN A SERIES

Our team at Dover was thrilled to be honored by NARI with a Contractor of the Year (CotY) Award for a bathroom remodel completed for our customer in Lakewood. Enjoy this guest blog series by designer Amy Tilow that takes you on a project walkthrough…

Our construction team started where the couple had left off years before, completing the demo by removing the rest of the plaster walls and ceiling, and taking out the mud-base floor.

We discovered floor joists that were rotted and a ceiling that was not level.  Major plumbing issues were uncovered, as well:  The stack had a hole in it and the opened ceiling revealed a crack in the pipes in the bathroom above.  At this stage, all plumbing and structural concerns were corrected and upgraded to code.

The existing bathroom lights had individual switches located in the middle of the room, not by the door, requiring one to enter the room in the dark!

THE BATHROOM: BEFORE & AFTER

The renovation corrected these poor functional elements and added modern-day conveniences, while completely transforming the forgotten space, creating a beautiful bathroom retreat.

Next week, I’ll focus on the details and selections to show you how we incorporated the homeowners’ personal tastes and style into this revamped bathroom space.

Best,

Amy Tilow

This photo captures the main level guest bathroom in a modular, net-zero ready Vermont home.    Cushman Design Group designed the net-zero ready house in coordination with Huntington Homes who built, assembled, and finished the modular structure. The project was driven by the homeowners’ curiosity in interior design.  They worked closely with the design team to create a classy and appealing bathroom.   The main wall is made of ledge stone tile with Hubbardton Forge  wall sconces and a cherry framed mirror.  The vessel sink rests on top of a cherry counter top. the job site & the volvo

once upon a time there was a 1991 Volvo 240 that sputtered 3,000 miles from New York to California. I’m talking about my clunker, affectionately called NormaJean. over the past 15 years she has inadvertently appeared in many photos of projects (before, during, and after) I’ve worked on in San Francisco and beyond. as embarrassing as it may have been to screech up to a half million dollar project in that, she’s still around. I decided to dig through the archives and post photos. she’s not always at center but see if you can spot her in there, smiling for the camera 🙂 2004, Cole Valley SF: 2005, Menlo Park: 2006, Pacific Heights SF:  2009, Foster City: 2010, Mill Valley: 2012, San Francisco: 2012, San Francisco: 2012, Belmont: 2013, Mountain View: 2013, Angwin: 2014, Noe Valley SF: 2016, Mill Valley: 2017, Arnold: the end for now – but not the end of Norma Jean!
